I had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Steve Robinson, President of the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), regarding his experience with performance evaluation and a recent blog post he published, The Head Evaluation, Assessing Constructs. Steve served as the head of a few schools and has provided outstanding leadership for SAIS. His work with school boards nationally and internationally makes him a unique expert on this topic.
I had the privilege of visiting with Lee Taylor, Head of School at Claiborne, and have been quite impressed with the leadership, the vision, and the plans. What stood out to me is the employee culture of the church and school that highly values the strengths of each leader with a healthy level of accountability and lots of opportunities for growth. They truly invest in their people!

Today, June 14th, marks the six month annivarsary of the devistating shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in NewTown, CT. School Growth is lifting up prayers for grace in the hearts of the familys who's children died that day, as well as for the whole community. Last month I conducted a seminar called “3 Keys to Successful School Leadership,” with the 3 Keys being Hire Well, Fire Well and Engage the Donor. Thank you to the many people who shared encouraging notes and comments about this series. In regards to firing well, we have a recent example in the national media of the kind of consequences that ensue when an employee discipline issue is not handled well. In this case the consequences of poor communication were demoralizing and disruptive.
Today I had the opportunity to interview Dr. William Mott, author of the book, The Board Game. Bill has many years of education experience as a school administrator, college professor, and development consultant.
