Hi My Friend,
During the Building Parent Engagement & Ambassadors workshop on Tuesday, a participant asked: "When is the best time to survey new parents to learn from their experience?"
The answer: November at the latest (Sept or Oct is even better)
Learning from these families is important because their experience of having looked at your competitors is still a recent memory, plus they can give you feedback regarding their onboarding experience since the start of the year and you can assess their current level of engagement (with the goal of 3 deep relationships). Issues can be address now rather than waiting until the spring when it may be too late.
Independently collected data from other key family groups will also inform your assessment of the school's performance and the value proposition. (We call this Target Market Family Research) Combining this vital information with external demographic and trend data will give you a comprehensive picture that is critical as preparations are already beginning for 2018-19.
Timing and knowing the right questions to ask will give you the data you need to learn and improve. Let me know if you would like to explore options for improving your data and analysis.
Our Building Parent Engagement Workshop in Nashville was soldout, with schools participating from MD, TX, GA, AL, and TN. This session explored how to train teachers and staff on customer service habits and their impact on enrollment, how to establish a productive parent ambassador progam, and the importance of organizational health. On Nov 1st we're offering this same workshop online.
One of our clients is expecting big changes in the school's leadership later this year. Nearly half of the top leadership team will be leaving to pursue new goals in life. Now is the time to assess the quality of the employees throughout the school, to produce a Performance Rubric and to determine the Talent Quotient (TQ). This data will enable important personnel feedback sessions before the December break so that the new calendar year starts with greater clarity and with lower risk for HR compliance legal issues. Such an audit will also guide restructuring of the leadership team to align with and leverage the strengths and talents of the chief administrator.
Some very important decisions will be made in the next 90 days in preparation for 2018-19: Enrollment Forecast, Financial Forecast, and Tuition and/or Fee increases. Now is the time for the administration and school board to examine enrollment processes, data, systems, etc., to verify best practices and to ensure operational integrity.
We've prepared this free School Leadership Resource for your team to use as a tool for reflection and planning. Top performing schools know how to use their data to learn from the past and make valuable adjustments.
School administrators have one of the most difficult, stressful jobs, but you don't have to do it alone. Through one or two coaching sessions each month, we can help you navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead to achieve your goals.
"Having a School Growth coach has given our school a big advantage. We've implemented your system for engaging teachers and parents, and your advice has helped me personally stay focused on what's most important--especially communication. We've grown enrollment 20% over the last two years as a result." --Enrollment Director
